Question: 373-3410
We have a pawpaw that is doing very well. Can we plant it outdoors? Mike, Proctor, VT

Mort's Answer:
Asimina tribola and Carica papaya, also called custard apple, are both known as pawpaw. A.triloba has a banana flavored brown fruit and is hardy from RI south. Papaya is strictly tropical. As a houseplant, it will serve you well. You could put outdoors on a patio during the summer and enjoy the fruits of your labor in the shade. C. papaya requires male and female flowers for fruition.
