Question: 890-613
I would like to start a small vegetable garden in my back yard. We have a leach field and a septic tank. Should I avoid them? Julie, Templeton, MA

Mort's Answer:
There is a possibility that you could have runoff in the future. If the system is correctly installed the leaching goes downward. You can find the field by digging down about 18 inches. It might be registered at town hall. You can use non toxic detergents to alleviate that concern. It is better to err on the side of caution. If your system is working right, it should not be a problem.
