Question: 871-5212
I am looking to grow a 500 pound pumpkin this coming year. Can I do this in a box? I have the giant seeds. Todd, Norwich, CT

Mort's Answer:
You will need a box that is at least a cubic yard (3X3X3 ft). Most growers of the nearly a ton now will use a huge pile of manure. You will need to cut off most of the new pumpkins and leave but one or two for intensive care, if you want that golden egg. You will need a third coarse sand for the drainage and plenty of humus in your soil. You would be wise to have pillows for the candidates for the championship. If you have the large giant seeds, you have a good start for 500 lbs. Playing classical music might help.
