We have cut down a large pine tree. Can we use that as mulch under the blue berry bushes? Jim, Salem, CT

Mort's Answer:
Aged pine sawdust is the best. Wood chips take a long time to rot. As the wood rots, it takes out nitrogen from the soil. When it is completely rotted, it will draw nitrogen from the air into the soil. Blueberries love a 10 inch mulch. This rotting development can be used to your advantage and your blue berries will love it.
