Question: 1194-4514
Last year my peony died to the ground. This spring it arose like Phoenix and flourished. Should I cut it back this winter? George, New Brunswick, Canada

Mort's Answer:
Peonies are fickle sophisticated plants with the will of a cat. Once planted they do not like to be cut or cultivated by human kind. You could soak the ground around the peony now before a permanent frost sets into the soil. This will allow a fresh supply of water to melt in the spring. Growers use umbrellas to prolong the flowers once they have appeared.
