Question: 993-3313
We have some Myrtle ground cover that has dropped its leaves inn a wide area. I have used 10-10-10 fertilizer this spring. There are no signs of mold or insects. What happened? John, East Greenwich, RI

Mort's Answer:
Myrtle is a great cover in the shade with its deep blue flowers. Granular fertilizer has to be applied to the soil. Leave it alone until next spring. You have burnt the plant. If you feel the need to fertilize next year, use a foliar soluble formula when you water. While 10-10-10 granular is recommend for the soil of potatoes and other heavy feeders, it is too much for ground covers.
