Question: 1342-315
Each year I cut my Japanese Andromeda about this time. I am trying to keep it at six feet. Am I too late this year? I love the color of the new growth. Mary, Norwich, CT

Mort's Answer:
You can prune in the winter. Use a sharp cut. You are aware that you are relieving the plant of its flower buds. Japanese Andromeda grows from three to eight feet. It may be at its ultimate height. You could take a chance this year and you will see those beautiful reds, oranges and light green leaves as well as those pendulous clusters of little white bells.
