Question: 759-2212
I bought hydrangeas last spring that were in bloom. They were a foot high. I have tried this for two years without them doing well. I cut them down to about a foot in the fall and plant them in partial shade. What am I doing wrong? Joyce, Taylorville, IL

Mort's Answer:
You are doing everything right after the purchase. When you buy hydrangeas in bloom around Easter time , you are buying plants that have been forced in greenhouses. These plants rarely survive let alone do well in zone 6. Go to your local mom and pop garden center and purchase your hydrangeas that are not in bloom at this time of year. Then, you will be able to carry on with your routine with success.
