Question: 820-3812
Can I transplant Hens and Chicks now? Chuck, Springfield, IL

Mort's Answer:
Many other succulents are now winter hardy in your zone six now. You can move them anytime but fall and spring are best. Houseleeks are planted on thatch roofs in Europe. Sempervivum tectorum have flower stalks that can be a foot high with pink-red flower clusters. You might consider bringing some indoors for the winter. Many species are stemless and are wrongly named. S.arachnoideum aka cobweb houseleek can have 50 leaves in a globe like cluster. This plant is often used in clay pans indoors and often as roof sedum.
