Question: 1096-814
I am thinking of growing dandelions, purslane and pokeweed for my health. Any tips? David, Junction, TX

Mort's Answer:
Dandelions are an excellent source of vitamins. Some Italian friends eat it regularly in salads. Grow them in their own beds. Lawn dandelions need to be free of pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. Purslane has been a popular salad ingredient in European diets for ages. Both dandelion and purslane seeds are available in the USA. Pokeweed is poisonous, especially the roots. Birds know enough to drop it as soon as it is ingested. There are companies that now sell it in capsule form. These are formulated with very small amounts of this very toxic plant. Like Botox for skin and digitalis in tiny amounts, it is reputed to help users.
