Question: 1331-4815
With all the drought and flash floods that are occurring because of global warming. What can we do to alleviate some of the resulting weather? David, San Francisco, CA

Mort's Answer:
Municipalities can keep their watersheds at the reservoirs clean of debris. They can clear drainage lines and build more reservoirs. Smaller lawn areas and less swimming pools as mandated in many California cities and towns is a big step forward. As gardeners we can make concave lawns between the house and the streets. Traditional design has been convex. If we mulch our beds, they will absorb more natural rain fall and require less additional water. Lawns can be kept at three inches. We can collect gray water in rain barrels from the roof. This water can be used on true lawn and in flower beds.
