Question: 1190-4414
Can we grow garlic, turmeric and ginger? Clarence, Slidell, LA

Mort's Answer:
They can be grown outdoors in zone 9A. Turmeric, which comes from Curcuma longa plants, is tropical like ginger roots. Both powders are ground from the roots of the plants. They can be brought into the house for the winter. It is easier to dissect the roots to be used from the mother plant at that time. You could leave them outdoors as you would the garlic but you should cover C.longa and Zingiber if a frost is coming.
