Question: 1127-2014
I have an evergreen tree that I transplanted from the woods. It is under the eaves and about seven years old with a short needle. Can I move it now and should I? Mark, Noank, CT

Mort's Answer:
You could move the house. It is probably a spruce tree that will grow to 60 feet. You could root prune the tree now and move in the fall. If you do get a good root ball now, put it a place where it can accommodate the ultimate height. Dig the new hole at 150% of the size of the ball. It could weigh 200 lbs. You can make a sled with wet burlap to drag it across the lawn. Otherwise get a keg of beer and two brawny brother-in laws should do nicely.
