Question: 382-3419
I planted Easter lilies in full sun and they did not come back. Is there a special way to plant them? Pat, Galesferry, CT

Mort's Answer:
Lilies need cool soil and shade. I cut all but 5 inches off the top. This will allow photosynthesis to continue to feed the roots. Plant them in a soil that is half peat and present soil. Mix the soil to prevent barrier and loosen the roots before planting. Do not put any fertilizer in the hole. Be sure that the plant will receive full shade to insure another set of flowers in the fall. You can leave the bulb out but I prefer to dig it out and rest it for the winter in a cool dry place. They need cool temperature during the winter.
