Question: 1102-1114
Can you recommend some precautions that folks can take for possible droughts? David, San Francisco, CA

Mort's Answer:
Xeriscape principles can be applied anywhere. Native plants often require less water. Most are drought tolerant. Mulches retain water. Irrigation done regularly on the lawn will help sustain grasses. One inch a week is plenty including rain water. Good designs section off plants that need more water. Good maintenance will eliminate repetitive healing with water. Turn small areas of sod into flower beds or meld the area with adjoining plantings.
