Question: 1406-517
My 1794 Colonial has a front yard garden. The delphinium and lupines are not doing well. Has the heat from the past summers affected their growth? What else can I do? Robin, Mansfield, CT

Mort's Answer:
Drought has been more of a factor, especially this past year. I would suggest planting some old fashion PG hydrangea. They can be trimmed to be a tree or not to be. As a tree it will provide needed shade for low plants. You will have less evaporation of water with the added shade. Mulching will also help water retention.
