Question: 1303-3815
I want to cut back my Gold Thread Cypress. It is six feet wide now. It is beautiful but all over the nearby shrubs. How much can I cut off? Mimi, Preston, CT

Mort's Answer:
Chamaeycyparis pisifera filifera has been grown by New England nurseries as a spreading shrub for years. It will grow naturally as a cone with a little help. I would cut a foot off at the base on the sides. If can leave the top free to grow upright, you can have a very graceful evergreen with pendulous side branches with a leader stem at the top.
