Question: 363-1610
We have a curly willow tree that was sending out way too many low side branches, which we pruned off a couple weeks ago in order to create a tree with a more singular trunk. However it's sprouting back in multiples in the places we cut. I planted the tree from a single cutting that I grew myself, starting about 10 years ago and it's just slightly taller than our 2-story house now. Lynne, Fairfield, CA Is there something I can paint on the pruned cuts to keep them from sprouting anew, without killing the tree itself?

Mort's Answer:
Curly willow has a trendency to be bushy. After cutting the side shoots and covering the cuts with tree wax, wrap the bark with a gauze cloth to discourage new growth.
