Question: 830-4012
I had to harvest some cantaloupe before the frost hit. How can I ripen them indoors? Katie, Marquette, MI

Mort's Answer:
Folks will generally put fruit in a brown paper bag with a piece of apple or banana to hasten aging. You may be better served by just opening the cantaloupe to the air. It does not convert to sugar readily. You could try leaving on the vine through the first frost. A properly aged melon will smell sweet. If you tap it with your fingers, it will sound like a thump when ripe.
