Question: 1349-1816
I am hesitant to use BT on my cabbage. Why are farmers using it? Bill, Tulsa,

Mort's Answer:
Bacillus thuringiensis is a bacterium found in most soils. Most soils are filled with all kinds of bacteria that are good and bad., There are many benefits to eradicating cabbage lopers. BT has gotten a bad name because the DNA of the organism has been inserted into corn DNA to keep insects away. You can not change the DNA of cabbages by osmosis in the annual plantings. Strains of BT Kurstaki and Israelensis are the best for loopers. It has been a long time organic remedy for gardeners and farmers.
